This is a such a beautiful little hand carved antique box! It was used to hold the patches (faux beauty marks ladies used on their faces-shaped like moons, stars & hearts- an early precursor to temporary tatoos) on a ladies' vanity, amidst her powder pots & perfume bottles. It works perfectly- opening & snapping closed & is in wonderful condition apart from a hairline crack near the button (present in nearly every antique natural grained piece I own- probably due to changes in temperature & humidity). This is not a structural crack. It measures 3 & 5/16ths inches long by 13/16ths inches wide by 3/8ths of an inch deep. It has a blank rose gold cartouche on the lid, & wonderful rose gold beads all along the perimeter with rose gold painted dots between those. The inside is lined top & bottom with camel colored velvet (worn looking as you would expect from a piece over 200 years old). It displays beautifully as you can see in my last pictures.
